Rig move criteria are about the same as the conventional jack ups in the SNS. The average towing speed is around 5 to 6 knts. (Max measured over 10 knts SOG). Since rig moves are in general short it is advisable to use 3 tugs. Min 90 BTP for the lead and min 45 BTP for the two assisting tugs is required.
The accommodation is suitable for a maximum of 66 souls on board. Safety systems are provided for 75 people so day trippers can be handled on top of the maximum amount of crew.
Swift 10 is a super singles hydraulic drilling rig and will therewith never beat existing tripping records in comparison to standard jack ups that handle triples. Advantages are typically that no separate singling in and singling out time is being used. (About 3 days time advantage per well). Also slipping and cutting is being eliminated with the hydraulic hoist.
The automated pipe handling system can handle up to 30 joints range 3 pipe (13.5 mtr/45 ft) per hour. In automatic mode the system can handle 2 7/8 to 9 5/8 pipe. In semi automatic mode up to 24” pipe can be handled. 30” conductor is run with the use of a special designed handling frame in a safe and efficient manner by crane. Our advice is to pre drill rather then driving the conductor. The limited hoisting height makes running a hammer inconvenient.
Pulling out or running in the hole is at the same pace. As an example 9 5/8 casing can be pulled out of the hole and laid in baskets at an average pace of 26 joints per hour and is immediately ready for back loading. Running in the hole is being limited by the computer make up torque checks.
Skidding the cantilever fully in out takes about 1 ½ hour and is for example being used to pick up the sub sea Xmas tree. The Xmas tree can be taken of the boat at a convenient sea state. It can be prepared and connected to the umbilical’s off line. The conductor tensioning unit can handle a max pull of 90 tns.
The rig has two 5000 psi LTI conventional mud pumps however they are equipped with a electronic synchronizing system to prevent as much noise as possible and in order to receiving the cleanest down hole data possible.
Limits for drilling a well are about 65 degrees inclination. Swift 10 has drilled various S-shape wells without deviation issues. Higher inclinations and horizontal wells require careful torque calculations. It is not advisable to drill extended reach horizontal wells. To reach well target efficiently and in order to minimize the risk of downhole failures a feed off control system is installed. The system can be controlled by weight on bit, rate of penetration or differential pressure.
Since Swift 10’s concept thought is drilling slim line wells where 9 5/8”casing is being used as the surface casing. The diverter system is being integrated in the 13 5/8” BOP. A spool piece between the single and double U preventers provides the overboard line where the annular preventer is being used as the diverter bag. Swift 10 has experience with running a 21 ¼ annular and matching spool piece to set up a larger diameter diverter system when required.
The rig has one 80 tons deck crane. The crane is normally diesel hydraulic however it is provided with an electric hydraulic redundant back up system in case of an engine failure. The functionality of the crane is then limited to one handling at the time.
Due to the large capacity of the crane heavy coil tubing reels can be assembled onshore and directly positioned on the spot where it needs to be. The mast facilitates easy handling of the injector head as the crane is not obstructed by the usual A frame in a conventional derrick.
A full well test spread including burner booms can be handled efficiently. A dedicated rig cool system is deployed during the well test in order to prevent damage to the rig.
